What makes a door actually compliant
Not every screen door sold as “security” meets the Australian Standard. To be genuinely compliant, a door needs to meet AS 5039.1 (manufacture and testing) and be fitted according to AS 5039.2 (installation) — the two go together, since a compliant door installed incorrectly isn’t actually secure. Two things worth checking with any installer:
- Locking system — only a triple-point lock with a pin cylinder is compliant. Single-point locks are common on cheaper “barrier” doors, but they don’t meet the standard.
- Frame construction — Prowler Proof doors use welded frame construction rather than screws or rivets, which holds up better over time and isn’t something you can retrofit onto a cheaper door later.
